A very popular Knightsbridge restaurant, Verbanella was packed at 6pm with the early theatre crowd. Situated over three floors, its view over Beauchamp Place offers a delight for fashion lovers to see the rich and famous being photographed in this renowned street.

This restaurant is one of the few in London to offer Spaghettini with Fresh Clams (£8.50) which we ordered. The spaghettini was beautifully flavoured and served al dente. We also ordered Wild Mushrooms All' Arrabbiata (£8.50), Porcini mushrooms in hot chilli and tomato sauce - large and filling!

Because of variety of dishes, choosing the main course put us in a quandary, especially since , as an option , there is a set daily menu of three starters, three main courses and desserts. We eventually opted for Halibut Fillets Del Pescatore (£14.50) and Fresh Seabass Alla Griglia (£19.00). The Halibut came with clams in a fish sauce, served with saute' potatoes and baked in the oven. A meal for big eaters! The Seabass was rich in flavour and had that unique oven roasted taste that only Italians seem to know how to achieve. To accompany the meal we chose Chardonnay Delle Langhe (£16.50), a fruity full bodied Italian white wine.

For dessert I sampled the Mille Feuille (£4.00), a puff pastry in layers of Chantilly cream . My colleague chose the Chocolate Mousse with fresh raspberries (£4.00), which was delightful.

An alternative option is the set lunch menu - a good value three course meal for £ 12.50. A recommended combination is: for starters Ricotta & Rucola (Rocket Salad), Vitello Tonnato (Cold Veal), and the soup of the day. For the main course try either Penne (Tomato with eggplant and mozzarella). Lamb Steak, or River Trout. Finish with Wild Strawberries. A highly recommendable combination!

The staff are excellent and very efficient. The food is generous and delightful in taste and presentation. Highly recommended for casual diners, theatre goers in a hurry and shoppers alike.
