FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How long does it take to get my site up and going?
A. Technically, we can build most of our Basic sites within a couple days. However, we find that by the time we do a good job working with you to get the right look/feel for your site, work with you to gather your ad copy, give time for testing, etc. it takes longer. We typically recommend giving 3-6 weeks for a typical site including E-commerece from start to launch date. Small Portal and Web applications require 2-3 week for analysis and project description then development and testing can take from 4 to 12 weeks.
Q. Can I start small and then expand my website later?
Absolutely! and in particular for complex websites we will normally recommend this approach.
Q: Do I need a Shopping Cart and Credit Card Facility to sell my products?
A. For any retail business a catalogue system is normally required. The decision to expand a catalogue system, adding shopping cart functionality and credit card verification and transaction capabilities should be related to your sales target and the price or mark-up of your products.
Now-a-days is relatively easy to acquire a Merchant agreement to accept credit card payment online, the process should not take more than 3 week from application.
Q. Do I have to come to your office to get a website? What if I live in a different part of the country or a long distance from you?
A. We can design a website for you no matter what part of the world you live in. There are several ways you can send us your information. If you already have digitized photos and text files, i.e.. Word documents and gif and or jpg images, you can email them to us. If not, you can mail us the information that you want on your website.
Q. Who host my website?
A. We host most of the website we make. We have our own servers (web servers, Domain Name servers, Email servers, etc.) so we are fully in control on the operation of the website. Our servers are located in Redbus-Telehouse, (London Docklands Hub). Third party hosting can be initially cheaper but you normally pay the price in performance and reliability as you are sharing the space with may other agents completely out of your control. You are also limited to what the hosting service allow you to do.
Q. How often can we change our website?
A. As often as you like. Monthly, weekly, daily, hourly. We will provide you with a maintenance plan adapted to your particular requirements.
Q. Who maintains my site after it goes live?
A. If you have the staff and expertise to maintain your website you can do it your self but we find most clients prefer us to help with maintenance. One of our most common maintenance plan is where we act as your 'technical maintenance staff'. You send us updates/changes on a periodic basis and we make the changes for you.
We can also set up specific pages or sections so that they may be updated by the client with no special knowledge required. See our CMS product pages for more information.
Q. What if I already have a Domain Name?
A. Then you have to decide who is going to manage (host and administer) your Domain Name:
The hosting of Domain Names can perfectly be different from the hosting of the website
If you are happy with the current hosting service of your Domain Name keep it as it is!.
If you have any problems with the current hosting service or for sake of simplicity in your set-up, you should then ask the current Domain Name hosting service (1) to transfer to us the administration (so that we can host it in our servers).
Note: Although the hosting of Domain Names can be separated from the Hosting of the website, you should be aware that it can makes a bit more complex to find out who is responsible of problems concerning the website.
(1) We can tell you who is the current hosting service of your domain name and will send you the text to make your request.
Q. Even though I'm on your annual renewal plan for my domain name, I still get renewal notices. Why?
A. The way our renewal program works is that we pay the renewal notices whenever they come due so you never have to worry about it. Sometimes, it's because your email address is still listed as the billing contact, you may get a renewal notice. Other times, you may simply be getting spammed by companies trying to get you to switch to their services. One company in particular (register.com) sends out spam email and spam snail mail to domain name registrants 'informing' them your domain name is up for renewal and to 'follow their instructions' to renew it. When you do so, you are actually giving them permission to move your domain name from wherever it is currently registered at (usually not at register.com) and move it to their services - very similar to slamming in the telephone long distance business. If you are on our renewal program and you get some type of renewal notice, simply forward it to us and we'll make sure it's taken care of.
